Responsibilities

The Nurse Unit Manager is primarily responsible for supervising nursing activities and provides direct nursing care during assigned duty hours while maintaining compliance with all applicable laws, regulatory and organizational standards.

 

Nurse Unit Manager -RN Responsibilites:

 

Clinical Management of Residents

  • Monitors and ensures completeness of resident documentation including daily, monthly and quarterly assessments. 
  • Ensures follow up on clinical requests
  • Monitors admissions and readiness for completion of data
  • Coordinates with Medical Records to assess and ensure completion of monthly orders
  • Participates in Quality Improvement (QI) Committee and activities as assigned 
  • Creates and implements corrective action plan to improve outcomes
  • Updates care plans with new and discontinued treatments for personal care residents
  • Completes various medical forms as delegated by the DON; assists in maintaining, reviewing, and revising a comprehensive written plan of care for personal care residents
  • Monitors the tracking of labs and lab slips, ensuring they are completed in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Performs skilled nursing care and personal care based upon resident need, staffing levels, abrupt increase in patient acuity, emergencies related to weather and or by request of the DON

 

Administrative and Leadership

  • Makes clinical rounds
  • Maintains up to date knowledge of and monitors compliance with regulations
  • Assesses staff education needs and reports to Staff Development
  • Assists with new employee on-boarding, monitors progress and performance as directed
  • Assists with completion of employee performance evaluations as directed
  • Monitors and ensures customer service standards and that call lights are answered
  • When required, works as a staff nurse to provide direct care to the residents
  • Covers for other nursing administration personnel as directed as people are off
  • Other duties as assigned or directed

 

Qualifications

What will you need as a Nurse Unit Manager-RN?

 

Required Education:               Associates degree in nursing from an accredited college or university         

Preferred Education:               Bachelors’ degree in nursing from an accredited college or university         

Required Experience:              2 years’ experience in long-term care; supervisory experience in acute care, sub-acute or long term care

Required:                                Licensed in the Commonwealth of Kentucky as a RN; Certified Wound Care Nurse or ability to become certified within 6 months of

employment
